RAICES is a grassroots action oriented think tank that was founded in 2004. 

RAICES envisions a democratic society in which social, economic, and political power is distributed equally.  RAICES adds to the collective voice of the Eastern Coachella Valley by empowering and building upon the strengths of the community.  

Mission:

As a grassroots community based organization RAICES’ mission is to create a space for artistic and cultural expression, to promote healthy communities, and to strengthen the voice of the Eastern Coachella Valley. 

2005-2006 Social Change Program

1.  Artistic and cultural expressions

This year RAICES will host a series of events designed to bring art and activism to the community.  A sample of events includes:

    • In Front of History a micro film and community forum
    • Dia de los Muertos Festival
    • Chicano Film Festival
    • Living on the Dime a multi-media photo exhibit

2. Healthy Communities

This year RAICES will target youth.  A sample of programs includes:

    • Youth leadership development
    • Higher education workshops
    • Community development projects

3. Strengthening the Voice of the Valley

This year RAICES will focus on the community’s electoral voice.  A sample of projects includes:

    • Citizenship education
    • Voter registration
    • Political outreach
    • Townhall series
