PROGRAM ORIGIN:

The Raices Media Production Program is an opportunity for Eastern Coachella Valley youth to learn about the wide range of applications that audio and video skills afford in media-based art practices and trending career paths. The overarching goal is to create a program that advances fine art techniques for self-expression and development of personal voice while imparting in-demand skills for future employment in creative fields. Youth participants benefit from a multi-platform approach to not only express themselves but to become empowered content producers, thereby increasing visibility, representation, and capacity of self.

PROGRAM format:

Selected participants meet once per week at the studio and develop their projects for the program. The audio aspect of the program is geared toward radio broadcasting; students learn radio equipment basics, how to develop content including interviews and educational segments, how to record quality audio content and edit final segments. Participants will have their projects aired on Radio Raices Cultura 95.1 FM. The video aspect of the program is geared to an intensive production environment with an introduction to video and sound basics, project conceptualization & storyboarding development, video recording & editing, post-production workflow, and an overview of field recording and documentarian practices. When possible, student participants will cross-polinate with local radio stations and video production companies for short-term internships, part-time work opportunities, and mentorships after the program.
